According to this study, the average price of the overnight stay in Spain remained at 99 euros, the same figure reached in 2017. In 2018 the highest average price corresponds to Barcelona, with € 120, despite the fact that it fell by € 10 compared to the previous year. In second place, Madrid appears with € 109 as the average price, 1.8% more than in 2017. The third most expensive Spanish city is Bilbao, with € 99.
The behavior of hotel prices is different according to the cities registered by HRS. Although there are places where the price increased significantly as in Bilbao (more than 12%), Granada , more than 9%; and Valencia, with 6.8%, there are other cities where the price was reduced. The most striking cases are those of Alicante , with a fall of 13.6%, and Barcelona, with a decrease of 7.7%.
Europe: slight increase in prices with moderate fluctuations
Price fluctuations in European destinations are quite limited: the biggest fall in prices was recorded in Barcelona and Moscow experienced the highest annual increase with a 9.5% increase, due to the celebration of the World Cup. According to HRS data, Zurich is the most expensive European city with a price of € 177 per night, followed by London (€ 176) and Copenhagen (€ 160).
Worldwide, variety of prices
With an average of € 249 (+ 0.4%), New York remains on top of the most expensive hotel overnight stays in 2018. Despite a 10% decrease, Washington remains in second place in this ranking. Beijing is booming, as hotel prices increase by 23.5% to € 100 on average. The city with the lowest prices is still Kuala Lumpur with € 56, despite the increase of 9.8%
About the evaluation: the report is based on all the hotel reservations made through the HRS portal during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2018 that were not canceled, being considered in the survey both the single and double rooms, with and without breakfast in the hotels of the categories from one to five stars. The destinations with a high volume of reserves were evaluated.
